Part 1: So God loves the world?
Have you ever questioned God how much He loves the world? I think we all have at one time in our lives; you know when something bad happens to a good person (unless you are perfect then you can stop reading this blog). By just watching the local news for five minutes you soon realize we live in a crazy evil world where bad things are happening every second. So how much does God love the world? This question drew me to meditate on one of the most famous scriptures in the Bible, John 3:16.
This scripture is so famous that most people, Christian or not, can quote it. We even see this scripture during football games as people hold up signs with John 3:16 on them. Tim Tebow would write it on his eye black (had to fit a Tim Tebow reference in somewhere) for the entire college football world to see. But do we really take time and understand the importance and sacrifice of this scripture?
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Let’s dive into the first part of that scripture, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.
I have a one and only son, his name is Jude. He is getting ready to turn eight months old in a few days. It has been an incredible journey, so far, in raising him. Of course there have been challenges and a lot less sleep, but through all of that I have come to understand the much deeper love that God has for his children.
Dawn and I have to do everything for him. Feed him, change his smelly diapers, his clothes, put him to sleep (teething has raised the degree of difficulty on this one, can I get an AMEN from the parents). Jude would not survive if we left him alone to raise himself. There is nothing Jude can do for me, nothing. But even though he can’t do anything for me I am deeply in love with this little boy.
Why do I love him so much?
Because he is mine. Plain and simple he is part of me and all I want from my son, Jude, is for him to want me. Jude is too young to tell me that he loves me, but I can feel his love when I snuggle him (when he lets me). When he reaches his arms out for me to pick him up; he chooses to come to me wrapping his little arms tightly around my neck. That fills me with so much unexplainable joy and love for him in return. I could never fathom loving someone so much and expecting so little in return.
There is nothing we can do for God. Nothing.
He has everything he wants at the tip of His finger. He is God. The great I am, Yahweh Jireh, the Lord almighty, King of all Kings, the heavy weight Champion of the world. He can do all things and has knowledge of everything everywhere past, present and future. There is nothing you can do for God, except to love Him back. It’s our choice to reach our arms out and go to Him. There is nothing we can do that will make God love us anymore or any less than he does right now. We are His. Plain and simple we are His masterpiece, His pride and joy, we are part of Him and when we chose to show Him love this is the greatest joy we can give God our Father.
